    Two Greenfield men were arrested Friday following an alleged overnight break-in at the Buckeye Hills Country Club in Southeast Fayette County. Law enforcement agencies from three counties were involved in the location and apprehension of suspects and stolen items.

    The Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss denied a motion to suppress an alleged confession from a Hillsboro man who police say admitted to shooting a neighbor in the face in December 2010.
  • Community Action announces Summer Food Service Program for Children
    The Highland County Community Action Organization, Inc. announces the sponsorship of the Summer Food Service Program for Children. Free meals will be made available to all children 18 years of age and under or persons over 18 who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled.

  • Cameron retires from board of elections
    Highland County Board of Elections Director Kate Cameron has announced her retirement, effective June 30.
      Cameron, a Democrat, has been the director for approximately three years and had replaced former Republican director Terry Washburn.

    Highland County Board of Commissioners President Shane Wilkin testified Wednesday before the State Senate of Ohio's finance committee, speaking about the drastic cuts local governments are facing, particularly in the area of social services.
     Wilkin, a member of the human services committee of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio, was asked to testify on behalf of the association regarding cuts that agencies such as county Job and Family Services are enduring, while serving a greater number of clients.

    Highland County Prosecutor Jim Grandey has announced his retirement, effective May 31. Grandey said that personal reasons and state pension changes prompted the decision. He also wants to spend more time with his grandchildren.
     A letter dated May 16 to Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley from Grandey stated, "This is to notify you that for personal reasons, I will be retiring as Highland County Prosecuting Attorney as of the close of business May 31, 2011.
