GREENFIELD – With a cold chill in the air, the Hillsboro Lady Indians were on a hot-streak in the first half Tuesday night in Greenfield, putting up a 3-0 lead after 40 minutes, en route to a 4-0 South Central Ohio League win over cross-county rival McClain.

In the first half Heather Storer started the productive game by the Lady Indians with a goal at the 37:21 mark with an assist from Ashley Meyer.

At the 19:36 mark of the same half Lauren Colliver blasted the ball into the net off a corner kick, adding to the HHS lead at 2-0.

The final goal of the opening 40 minutes came from an own goal by the Lady Tigers with 15:46 remaining in the half.

“The girls played with no fire in the first half, but came out and played better in the second half, holding Hillsboro to one goal,” McClain coach Darrell Upp said.

Hillsboro coach Leslie Molen was pleased with her team’s play in the first 40 minutes, but wanted to see more from her team in the second half.

“Our passing was excellent in the first half, but we laxed in the second half,” Molen said. “Defensively we did well. We had a few mix-ups where we had to scramble. Our keeper Megan Barnes did a good job (Tuesday)."

In the second half the lone goal was scored by Hillsboro’s Jennifer Williams with 25:22 left in the game. Her goal was assisted by Kaelee Sexton.

“Our midfielders did great in distributing the ball,” Molen said. “We played a lot of the younger kids and they got some playing time in.

“Overall I am pleased with the kid’s performance this season. They are doing a lot of things well and we just want to keep the program going in the right direction.”

Upp said he was proud of the way his team has improved from one season ago.

“The improvement these girls have made is incredible,” he said. “We had good plays from our subs. Our standouts (Tuesday) were Megan Hoagle and Taylor Faulconer.

“Nobody is running over us this season. The girls are playing tough and we aren’t going to be the easy game on the schedule anymore. I am just proud of this team.”

The win improves HHS to 9-1-1 overall, 6-1-1 in the SCOL. HHS currently sits in second place in the league behind Clinton-Massie. HHS is scheduled to play again this Saturday against Miami Trace at Richards Memorial Field.

The Lady Tigers drop to 1-10 overall. MHS will play again Thursday at London.
