Lady Indians dominate Washington
Washington C.H. - The Hillsboro Lady Indians had one test at hand before their showcase matchup Thursday for the top spot in the league, passing with flying colors as HHS dominated for 80 minutes in defeating the Washington Lady Blue Lions 9-1 Tuesday at Gardner Park in Washington C.H.
HHS left no questions unanswered in their South Central Ohio League game as they led 4-0 at the half, and scored five more times in the final 40 minutes.
"We were a little sluggish in the first half, but we were just trying to build up for Thursday's game (Clinton-Massie)," HHS coach Leslie Molen said.
"We played much better in the second half."
The opening 40 minutes was all Lady Indians, starting off with an early goal
from senior Shelby Coyle with the assist from junior Lauren Colliver.
Coyle made the score 2-0 with a goal at the 30:38 mark of the first half. The assist was credited to senior Paij Shelton.
HHS senior Jennifer Williams, off a pass from Ashley Meyer, gave the Lady Indians a three-point cushion with a goal with 4:33 left in the first half.
The score went 4-0 at the 2:36 mark of the half with a goal from Kaelee Sexton. Sexton¹s goal was at will, as she stopped and set up her shot to the corner of the net.
In the second half, the Lady Indians really turned things up a notch as they outscored the Lady Blue Lions 5-1.
The first goal of the second half came with 32:51 left in regulation off the foot of Colliver.
After a Washington goal by Shannon Pumbley with 27:16 left in the game, Colliver scored her second goal, this time off a penalty kick after the Lady
Blue Lions had a yellow card.
HHS scored three more goals in the game for the 9-1 victory.
Meyer scored her first goal against Washington at the 21:40 mark, followed by Sexton¹s second goal with 7:50 left in the second half. The final goal came from Colliver, for the hat trick, with 3:15 left in the SCOL contest, to make the score 9-1.
HHS will host the Clinton-Massie Lady Falcons Thursday at Richards Memorial Field at 5:30 p.m.
