Hillsboro man sentenced to prison for trespassing
A Hillsboro man was sentenced to a year in prison recently after pleading guilty to a trespassing charge.
As previously reported, Robert T. Dool, 36, was indicted in January on one count of trespass in a habitation when a person is present or likely to be present, a fourth-degree felony. The indictment accused him of knowingly trespassing at a Hillsboro residence in December “by force, stealth or deception.”
According to a bill of particulars, the Highland County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported burglary at a residence and discovered Dool sitting on the front porch “highly intoxicated.” The homeowner advised that the suspect had entered his home while he was asleep. The homeowner escorted Dool outside and “attempted to engage in a conversation with Dool about why Dool had been inside the house,” the bill of particulars says, but Dool “became aggressive.”
In addition to entering the home, Dool also “began going through the back seat” of a parked vehicle at the residence, the bill of particulars says. The homeowner eventually held Dool at gunpoint until sheriff’s deputies could get to the location. The suspect also attempted to kick the window out of a sheriff’s cruiser and had to be restrained, according to the bill of particulars.
According to court records, Dool pleaded guilty to the charge May 3. He was sentenced by Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss to a definite determinate term of 12 months in prison, with jail time credit of 29 days.
Dool was also indicted in April on one count of failure to appear. That case has been dismissed.
