Office of State Senator Shane Wilkin, Press Release

State Senator Shane Wilkin (R Hillsboro) announced that Gallia and Highland counties will receive funding to prepare two sites for future development.

"This investment will give our communities the foundation to make these properties something great for everyone to enjoy," Wilkin said. "I look forward to seeing how this work helps our neighborhoods thrive, our economy grow and Southern Ohio succeed."

The Gallia County Land Reutilization Corporation will receive $209,872 for the cleanup and restoration of the Hills Grocery site. Additionally, the Highland County Land Reutilization Corporation will be awarded $129,628 to conduct an assessment at the East Monroe Tank Farm.

This funding is part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program that is currently funded through House Bill 33, the state's main operating budget which Wilkin supported. This program aims to help clean up industrial, commercial and institutional brownfield sites. The grant program launched in 2021 and since then has awarded more than $490 million to support 462 projects in 84 counties.
