UPDATED: Winter Storm Watch in effect; school closings announced

A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 10 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5 until 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, according to the National Weather Service.

Snow is expected to begin early Tuesday morning, with accumulations of 1-3 inches in some areas of southwest Ohio.

In addition to the snow, the NWS said temperatures will dip to near 0 and wind chills will be below 0 on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Hillsboro City Schools announced early Tuesday that it was on a 2-hour delay Jan. 6. Later, HCS changed that to a closed status for today. Hillsboro Christian Academy also is closed.

Bright Local Schools, Fairfield Local Schools, Greenfield Exempted Village Schools, Lynchburg-Clay and East Clinton Schools are closed for Jan. 6. Wilmington City Schools are closed.

Adams County/Ohio Valley Schools are on a 90-minute delay Tuesday.

Fayetteville-Perry Schools are on a 2-hour delay. Southern State Community College is now closed.

St. Mary Catholic School in Hillsboro is now closed. 

Cozaddale Baptist Church is on a 2-hour delay.

Tuesday Night – Mostly cloudy, with a low around 9. Wind chill values as low as -6. West wind 9 to 17 mph, with gusts as high as 29 mph.

Wednesday – A chance of snow showers, mainly after 10am. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 11. Breezy, with a northwest wind 18 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Wednesday Night – A slight chance of snow showers before 10pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around -2. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 16.

Thursday Night – Mostly cloudy, with a low around 13.

Friday – Mostly sunny, with a high near 25.

Friday Night – Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14.
