Tyszkiewicz to face Wenstrup in November election
Democratic candidate Marek Tyszkiewicz will face incumbent Second District Congressman Brad Wenstrup in the November election.
Tyszkiewicz, of Cincinnati, is a former math and science teacher who is currently employed as an actuary.
With 9,159 of 9,160 precincts reporting statewide, Tyszkiewicz unofficially won with 29.78 percent of the votes, defeating three challengers in the Democratic primary: Marek Tyszkiewicz, 4,781 votes; Ronny Richards, 3,959 votes; William R. Smith, 3,932; and John Sheil, 3,384.
In Highland County, Tyszkiewicz finished second unofficially with 194 votes to Smith, who tallied 240 votes. Richards received 172 votes in Highland County, while Sheil received 101.
Wenstrup unofficially received 36,824 complimentary votes, including 4,858 votes from Highland County.
Rep. Wenstrup was elected in 2012 to represent the people of Ohio’s Second Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. He brings experience as a doctor, Army Reserve officer, Iraq War veteran, and small business owner to help Congress tackle the economic and security challenges facing the nation.
In the 113th Congress, he serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs.
A Cincinnati native, Rep. Wenstrup graduated from the University of Cincinnati in 1980. He earned a medical degree as a podiatric surgeon and later established a private practice in Cincinnati, treating patients for the last 26 years. He has served in the U.S. Army Reserve since 1998, currently holding the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. In 2005-06, he served a tour in Iraq as a combat surgeon, and was awarded a Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for his service.
During his time in Congress, Brad is fulfilling his Reserve duties by treating patients at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.
Ohio's Second District covers all or parts of eight counties, including: Hamilton, Clermont, Brown, Highland, Adams, Pike, Ross and Scioto.
