The Hillsboro Police Department dispatched officers to a traffic crash that occurred at 1:49 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, 2012 in the 300 block of Chillicothe Pike.
Lloyd N. Rowe, 70, of Hillsboro, was operating a 1996 Chevrolet van in the parking lot of FRS at 313 Chillicothe Pike when the accident happened. Rowe was exiting a parking space when the van darted backward across the parking lot, jumped the curb, across some landscape timbers, down an embankment and struck a tree, coming to a stop. It appears Rowe's foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the accelerator pedal, causing the vehicle to race backward.[[In-content Ad]]
Two passengers in the vehicle, along with Rowe, were transported by Hillsboro Fire & EMS, Lynchburg Fire & EMS and Paint Creek North Fire & EMS to Highland District Hospital with unknown injuries. The other passengers, Myrtle Rowe, 70, and Tyler Grisham, 15, were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this accident.
