Snow advisory issued; ODOT crews dispatched

Even though Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring when he failed to see his shadow this morning, winter weather continues for the Ohio Valley.
A snow advisory has been issued for much of southern Ohio Saturday, with two to four inches of accumulation possible.
In addition, numerous school-related events have been postponed for Saturday.

Ohio Department of Transportation crews from the maintenance facilities in Adams, Brown, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross and Scioto counties were dispatched early this morning in advance of today's winter storm.
With the forecast calling for between two and four inches of snow during an approximately 24-hour period, most of the accumulation is anticipated to be during the first few hours, with it tapering off to flurries before the storm ends.
In addition to the threat of snow and ice, temperatures that are well-below freezing will make clearing roads difficult as materials do not work as effectively. Along with the need for extreme caution when driving, motorists need to be prepared if planning to travel this weekend and have their vehicles well-prepared, too.
ODOT forces will be working throughout this next winter storm; however, drivers need to stay alert, allow additional travel time and maintain a safe following distance behind other vehicles.
