Sheriff's Office K-9 euthanized at age 8

Sheriff Richard Warner has announced "with great sadness" that after six years of faithful service to the Highland County Sheriff's Office, Jorka, a K-9, has passed away at the age of 8.

Jorka, a Belgian Malinois, was partners with Sgt. Craig Seaman. She began her service at the Highland County Sheriff's Department in May 2008. She was trained and certified in narcotic detection, tracking and criminal apprehension.

In her career, Jorka was used 718 times by Highland County law enforcement and surrounding county agencies. Jorka found over 30 pounds of marijuana and several ounces of heroin, methamphetamine, powder cocaine and crack cocaine. Jorka had 83 successful tracks and made 76 suspect apprehensions.

On July 4, she was diagnosed with terminal gastric carcinoma. After both a veterinarian and surgeon recommended that she be euthanized, Jorka was put down at the Cincinnati MedVet Animal Hospital.

The Highland County Sheriff's Department extends its deepest sympathy to Sgt. Seaman and his family.
