Sen. Portman tours Alkermes Drug Manufacturing Facility
WILMINGTON – On Monday, February 17, U.S. Senator Rob Portman (R-Ohio) visited the Alkermes Drug Manufacturing Facility in Wilmington to tour the manufacturing site for VIVITROL.
VIVITROL is the only medication approved by the FDA for the prevention of relapse to opioid dependence, following opioid detoxification.
The once-monthly prescription medication should be part of a comprehensive management program that includes psychosocial support.

VIVITROL is being used as part of a five-county drug court pilot program spearheaded by OhioMHAS. The program utilizes addiction treatment medications in combination with counseling and related services to promote abstinence from opiates and decrease recidivism in the Ohio criminal justice system.
“It was great to visit with the talented men and women at Alkermes in Wilmington,” said Portman. “We all have a role to play to combat drug abuse and addiction in our communities, and I appreciated the opportunity see the work done at this Ohio manufacturing facility first-hand.”
