Washington, D.C. – Congressman Mike Turner, Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Tactical Air and Land Forces, issued the following statement after sending a letter to President Barack Obama today urging him to fully comply with the ‘Pay Our Military Act’:

“I sent a letter to President Obama today urging him to fully comply with the law, which he signed, that would immediately put 800,000 civilian employees back to work including nearly 9,000 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

"I am astonished the president is willing to use the Department of Defense civilian personnel and risk our national security as a bargaining chip," Turner said.

"The ‘Pay Our Military Act’ clearly authorizes the Department of Defense to provide pay and allowances to the civilian personnel who are in support of our Armed Forces. There is no reason these men and women serving our country should have to suffer as a result of a political showdown.”
