Property cleanup complete at former Rainsboro business

Hundreds of used tires and other debris have been removed from the former location of Rainsboro Tire, LLC.
The business was located on Barrett Mill Road and U.S. 50.
According to Paint Township Trustee Randy Mustard, several complaints had been reported about the estimated 1,200 used tires stacked on the property.
"I had several complaints on the tires stored outside Rainsboro Tire," Mustard said. "There were approximately 800 tires stacked up on this property.
"In late 2011, I started working on the problem. I called the Health Department to see if they would get involved. This went on for a while, and then the tire shop closed, but the tires still remained."
Mustard said he stayed in contact with Health Department officials and also contacted the Ohio EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).
"After some time passed, the Health Department sent it to the Board of Health," Mustard said. "They gave the owners 30 days to remove the tires. After 30 days, it went to the prosecutor."

Later, Mustard said, he was contacted by Bill Hubbard, president and CEO of The Rockhold, Brown & Co. Bank in Bainbridge.
"Bill contacted me to see if I could help find the people who had a land contract on the property," Mustard said. "I found an address for him, and he was able to contact them."
Hubbard credited Mustard's diligence in seeing that the property was cleaned up and available for resale.
Mustard thanked the Cantrell Oil Company of Winchester for "purchasing the property, cleaning it up and helping our community."
The existing structure was to be razed this week.
