Portman for Senate Announces Chairs for Each of Ohio’s 88 Counties
The Portman for Senate campaign has announced the Portman for Senate County Chairs, representing each of Ohio’s 88 counties.
“The Portman for Senate County Chairs Leadership Team is a key part of our strategy to have a strong presence in each of Ohio’s 88 counties,” Portman said. “Ohio’s working families and small businesses are struggling during these difficult economic times to make ends meet, but all they’re getting from the failed leadership in Columbus and Washington is more of the same status quo policies that have resulted in record unemployment and job losses. We have the opportunity to work together to put us back on the path to economic prosperity, and the Portman for Senate statewide leadership team will be a critical part of the team as we discuss our pro-growth, pro-job message with all Ohioans.”
The chairperson for Highland County is Helen Hiestand.
Hiestand has been involved with Republican politics in southwest Ohio for over 30 years. She first became involved in politics in 1980, when she ran for Highland County recorder. In 1981, she began working for Congressman Bob McEwen, where she worked as an office manager and case worker for 12 years.
In 1993, she began working in the Office of Community Development at the Hipple Cancer Research Center in Kettering. Two years later, she joined the staff of Congressman Frank Cremeans before working for seven years with Rob Portman as a District Representative during his time in Congress. She is currently involved in various volunteer activities in the Highland County area, including Operation Christmas Child, a ministry for children around the world. Helen and her husband, Ed Hiestand, are very active in their church, the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro.
