The Paint Valley Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMH) Board met with area community members Monday, Oct. 29 at the Highland County Health Department to discuss Ohio’s opiate epidemic.

This meeting was a first in Highland County and is just the beginning of a community response to drug problems.

“Southern Ohio is suffering from this epidemic and we are working with area agencies to provide treatment and prevention services, but are thrilled to be working with community members to bring awareness, education and solutions to our communities,” Executive Director Juni Frey said.

Penny Dehner, associate director of the Paint Valley ADAMH Board, opened the meeting by sharing some startling statics with the group of about 20, including area school superintendents.

Various areas of focus were discussed on how to create an impact on this problem and ways we may be able to assist.

More involvement by other organizations and media coverage will be focus for the next meeting scheduled for noon Thursday, Nov. 29 at the Highland County Health Department's conference room.
