Ohio State Highway Patrol, Press Release

The Wilmington Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a single-vehicle traffic crash that resulted in one fatality.

The Wilmington Dispatch Center was advised Wednesday at 4:56 p.m. of the crash, which occurred on Second Creek Road near Rhude Road.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Charles Gilkison, 54, from Blanchester, was operating a 2000 GMC Sierra pickup truck westbound on Second Creek Road when he lost control of his vehicle in a curve. He then went off of the right side of the road, where he struck two traffic sign posts and the ditch.

Upon striking the ditch, the vehicle overturned, and Mr. Gilkison was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

There were no other vehicles involved, and Mr. Gilkison’s vehicle did not have any passengers. The crash remains under investigation.

The Highway Patrol would like to ask all vehicle occupants to always wear your seatbelt.
