Ohio Adjutant General's Office, Press Release

About 220 citizen-soldiers of the Ohio Army National Guard’s 1st Battalion, 174th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, located in Cincinnati, are deploying to the National Capital Region in the Washington, D.C. area, in support of Operation Noble Eagle.

The public is invited to attend a call to duty ceremony Saturday, June 3 at 10 a.m. at the Landmark Church, 1600 Glendale-Milford Road, Cincinnati.

The battalion will be providing ground-based air defense and radar coverage to protect the National Capital Region (NCR).

Previous deployments by the 1-174th include 2010-2011 (Iraq), 2014-2015 (NCR) and 2018-2019 (NCR).

The Integrated Air Defense System (IADS) in the NCR, consisting of sensors, alert fighters and ground-based air defense weapons systems, was established shortly after Sept. 11, 2001, at the direction of the Secretary of Defense. Originally staffed by active-duty forces, the NCR mission has been manned by Air and Army National Guard members since 2003. The mission stands today as a prime example of the National Guard fulfilling its “Defense of the Homeland” mission.

This is a planned deployment and is not in response to the current events in Ukraine.
