New bus stop shelter placed along East Walnut Street

A new bus stop shelter for Hillsboro City Schools students has been installed in the 400 block of East Walnut Street.

The brainchild of former Hillsboro City Schools Board of Education member and current Hillsboro City Council member Mary Brown-Turner, the shelter was constructed and set up by Lerch's Barnlot Equipment of Hillsboro.

Steve McKibben of Lerch's delivered the building on Saturday morning and put it in place on property owned by Fay Gibson, adjacent to the home of Richard Williams.

"I can't thank everyone enough for their assistance," Mary Brown-Turner told The Highland County Press this week. "From Lerch's to Fay Gibson to Richard Williams and all those who donated to the project, it's really appreciated.

"To each and every one who has contributed to the reality of the shelter, I wholeheartedly thank you. The staff at Lerch's was absolutely wonderful."

The shelter house will provide relief from the rain, snow and wind for local students as they wait for the morning school bus. 

Lerch's has volunteered to put the building in storage during the summer months.

Hillsboro City Schools Superintendent Rick Earley also thanked everyone for their efforts on behalf of the students.
