More than 40,000 poll workers needed to administer polls on Election Day

Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted is continuing to encourage Ohioans who want an accessible, fair, and secure election to join him this November on the front lines of democracy by becoming a poll worker.

Boards of Elections will ideally appoint poll workers by September 15th and Secretary Husted is pushing those interested to sign up by this date.

“Poll workers serve as the face of democracy in Ohio and ultimately have the biggest impact on the overall success of an election in Ohio,” Secretary Husted said.

“On Election Day, I want voters to focus on the candidates and their ideas – not the process by which they are elected.”

Serving as a poll worker, otherwise known as a precinct election official (PEO), is both easy and rewarding. To be eligible to become a PEO a person must be at least 18 years of age and registered to vote in the county in which they plan to work; have not been convicted of a felony; and cannot be running as a candidate for the election in which they are working.

The Secretary of State’s office has launched PEOinOhio.com. It is a comprehensive website that provides online training tools and resources for county boards of elections and poll workers alike, as well as an online sign-up for Ohioans to become poll workers. To date we have recruited 863 people through the Secretary of State’s office.

To learn more about becoming a poll worker for the upcoming Presidential Election, please contact your county board of election or visit PEOinOhio.com.
