A total of 28 teams took part in the second-annual Highland District Hospital Foundation golf outing Saturday, June 22, at the Elks golf course in Hillsboro.

At the end of the hot, sunny day, the team of Adam Bagshaw, Rod Donley, Nick Fauber and Brett Prince emerged as the tournament winner, carding a 17-under 55, finishing four strokes ahead of three teams that shot 59 in the outing.

“It was a great day,” said HDH Foundation Director Cathy Jones. “Thanks to our sponsors, the teams that signed up and everyone who helped out, this was another wonderful event. We had beautiful weather and had exceptional support.”

All proceeds from the golf outing will help support the purchase of the new digital mammogram unit at Highland District, which has been in operation for more than two months.

The new mammography unit became a reality through a grant from the Appalachian Regional Commission and a fundraising campaign by the HDH Foundation. A John Deere Gator was also on display at the golf outing.

The Gator, sponsored by Five Points Implement Company Inc. and the HDH Foundation, will be raffled off later this year. Tickets for the Gator raffle are $20 each.

The golf outing is just one of several HDH Foundation events that will be held during the year.

The foundation will also have a 5K run/walk in the Rocky Fork State Park area in September, and will hold its 2013 Holiday Ball on Dec. 14 at the Elks. The raffle drawing for the Gator will be held at the December Holiday Ball.

Besides Jones, serving on the golf outing committee this year were Vicki Rhude, Susan Davis Thompson, Peter Pence, Todd Heskett, Chad Wilson, Steve Roush, Shane Wilkin, Neil Miller and Art Tokar, who are part of the HDH Foundation Board of Directors.

(Editor's note: Special thanks to Steve Roush for his coverage of this event.)
