Marshall Township fire under investigation

At 4:52 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 9, the Marshall Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire at 10630 Chestnut Road.

Sheriff’s deputies initially responding to a call of a possible breaking-and-entering discovered the fire in the unoccupied residence upon their arrival.

Chief Chris Jenkins of Marshall Township Fire Department reported that the second floor of the residence received significant damage in the fire.

Jenkins reported that the house was unoccupied, and that there were no injuries of emergency responders to the scene.

Marshall received mutual aid from Paint Creek Joint Fire District, Brush Creek Fire Department, Southern Joint Fire and EMS District, and Lynchburg Joint Fire and Ambulance District.

Marshall Township also provided assistance at the scene applying salt to the roadways which were icy as a result of the water from fire operations. Fire personnel remained on the scene until 7:35 a.m.

The fire remains under investigation, with the State Fire Marshall’s office being called to assist.
