Scioto County Sheriff's Office, Press Release

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman reported that his 911 Communication Center received a 911 call Saturday, May 20 from a female on Tatman-Coe Road in McDermott, claiming that her husband had just been shot in the face.

Sheriff Thoroughman stated that deputies, along with emergency medical squads, responded to the location. Upon arrival, deputies located the victim of the shooting, a 23-year-old McDermott man, who had a gunshot wound to the face. Deputies learned that the male suspect had left in a truck.

The victim was transported by ambulance to Southern Ohio Medical Center, then later transported to a trauma center to undergo surgery. He is currently in stable condition.

Detectives were able to process the scene, collecting evidence and obtaining witnesses statements. While deputies were out on Tatman-Coe Road, the 911 Communication Center received a 911 call reporting that a truck had been involved in a crash on Pollock Road.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to this call and found a truck that had crashed. That truck matched the description of the one in which the suspect had allegedly fled Tatman-Coe Road.

Deputies and detectives responded to the crash scene and recovered a firearm from inside of the truck. The suspect was later located on foot in the area. He was transported by squad to Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment.

The suspect was interviewed at SOMC, and evidence was collected which resulted in the arrest of the suspect. The suspect was sent to Grant Hospital, in Columbus, for observation and further testing. He was discharged and brought to the Scioto County Jail on Sunday, May 21.

Arrested was Henry Allan Clay Jr., 26, of Lucasville, Ohio. Clay has been charged with one count of felonious assault, a felony of the second degree; one count of having weapons while under disability, a felony of the third degree; and operating a vehicle under the influence, a misdemeanor.
