Local farmer Brad Williams discusses improved yields

Highland County farmer Brad Williams learned everything he knows about farming from his grandfather. “Grandpa has been a great influence with everything,” Williams said. “He’s probably forgotten more than I’ll ever know about farming.”

Brad followed in his granddad’s footsteps 15 years ago and has never looked back.

Today, Brad lives with his wife and young daughter and works alongside his grandfather. “Life as a farmer is great,” said Williams. “You get to be your own boss and make your own decisions.”
 
After Williams began losing yield due to glyphosate-resistant marestail and palmer amaranth, he decided to switch some of his acres to the Bayer CropScience Liberty/LibertyLink® soybean system, despite having exclusively used Roundup Ready to control weeds since 1996.

“We switched to LibertyLink soybeans because we had a big marestail issue. Roundup just won’t kill it.”
 
Two days after spraying Liberty, Williams saw that the marestail were dead. He immediately ordered 100 percent LibertyLink soybeans for 2015 and is expecting higher soybean yields this year.

"I can tell you that the LibertyLink beans are the best beans that this farm has ever raised,” Williams said. “If I could go back 15 years, I wish there were LibertyLink soybeans.”
