A Hillsboro woman arrested in May as part of a Highland County Task Force drug investigation was sentenced last week to two and a half years in prison.

Karissa Runyon, 30, was among 15 individuals arrested Wednesday, May 9, one day after the Highland County grand jury session. Fifteen indictments handed down in May were the result of ongoing work of the Highland County Task Force and local county law enforcement partners to stop drug trafficking in the area.

Runyon was charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine in the vicinity of a juvenile, both second-degree felonies; and two counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine, both third-degree felonies.

According to court records, Runyon pleaded guilty July 1 to a third-degree felony charge of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, with the original count amended to remove the language the offense occurred in the vicinity of a juvenile.

For that charge, the indictment alleged that on or about Dec. 13 and in Highland County, Runyon “did knowingly sell or offer to sell methamphetamine … in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount.”

The other three counts were dismissed.

Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Runyon to 30 months in prison, with jail time credit of three days. She was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $260 to the Highland County Task Force.
