A Hillsboro woman accused of causing “serious physical harm” to an infant was sentenced Wednesday, Oct. 1 to a minimum of five years in prison.

As previously reported, Elishia Marie Current, 26, was indicted by a Highland County grand jury in August and charged with one count of felonious assault, a second-degree felony; and two charges of endangering children, one second-degree and one third-degree felony.

The indictment accused Current of “knowingly causing serious physical harm” to a newborn victim during an approximate one-month period earlier this year.

According to court records, Current pleaded guilty to the felonious assault charge Sept. 19, with the two child endangering charges dismissed.

During a hearing Wednesday, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Current to a minimum of five years in prison. Under the Reagan Tokes Law, she could serve up to seven and a half years in prison. Current had 56 days of jail time credit.
