Hillsboro Police Report

On Oct. 9 at 12:17 a.m., an officer was at the North High St. Speedway enforcing a violation of a vehicle packed in a handicap zone. The operator of the vehicle was Heather Tankersley. She did not have a handicap placard or privileges to be in that parking space. Tankersley started to pull out of this parking space a short period of time after the officer arrived. The officer activated his overhead lights and stopped Tankersley. She got out of the vehicle and did not comply with orders to get back into her car. The Hillsboro Police K-9 was deployed for a vehicle sniff. The K-9 gave a positive passive response for the odor of a narcotic substance on/in this vehicle. After a search of the vehicle, she was found to be in possession of drug abuse instruments. Tankersley was arrested for possession of drug abuse instruments and obstructing official business.

At 9:55 a.m., a Walmart employee reported that she was in pursuit of a shoplifter. She led officers to Robert D. Coburn, Jr., who had fled the store and was hiding near the trash dumpsters near Bob Evans. Coburn was apprehended with stolen shoes on his feet and store merchandise and a small amount of marijuana nearby. The store employee identified Coburn as the person she observed conceal and remove the items from the store. Coburn as arrested for theft and had two outstanding warrants, which he was also served.
