A Hillsboro man arrested during a Highland County Task Force roundup in February was sentenced this month to community control.

As previously reported, a Highland County grand jury handed down 12 drug-related indictments as a result of HCTF investigations in February. Among those indicted, and arrested in a subsequent roundup, was Michael Carson, 44, of Hillsboro, who was charged with six third-degree felonies, including three counts of aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine and three counts of aggravated possession of methamphetamine.

According to court records, Carson pleaded to two trafficking counts in March, with the remaining four charges dismissed.

The two counts for which Carson entered guilty pleas stemmed from alleged incidents on or about July 25 and July 26. It is alleged that on those dates, Carson “did knowingly sell or offer to sell” meth “in an amount equal to or exceeding bulk amount but less than five times bulk amount.”

During a hearing April 2, Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss sentenced Carson to three years of community control. As part of his sentence, Carson will be required to successfully complete the STAR program and recommended aftercare.

Carson was also ordered to pay $120 in restitution alone and $180 joint and several with a co-defendant.
