A Hillsboro man has been charged with assault, criminal trespassing and obstruction of official business, after a weekend incident in the 500 block of North East Street.

Adam J. Denner, 29, was arrested after leaving a trail of footprints in the snow. Officers followed Denner's tracks to the Belfast Pike area and found the suspect hiding in a basement.

The Hillsboro Police Department received a 6:40 a.m. call Saturday, Dec. 29 of a report of two people being assaulted by Denner.

Both victims had visible injuries, the HPD said.

Prior to officers' arrival, Denner had left the North East Street residence. However, officers followed his tracks in the snow. Denner was spotted running behind a business on Belfast Pike.

After a search of the area, officers found a basement door had been removed. Denner was located in the basement, hiding behind a 25-gallon drum.

Denner is scheduled to appear in Hillsboro Municipal Court on Dec. 31.
