Hillsboro man arrested in alleged shooting

The Hillsboro Police Department responded to a call of a shot fired and fight in the 400 block of East Walnut Street Wednesday night.

Upon officers' arrival, a 61-year-old male was found with a gunshot wound to one of his legs. The victim was reported to have been walking on East Walnut St. when he and Richard Williams, 72, of Hillsboro, got into an altercation. Williams allegedly shot the victim with a 12-gauge shotgun. The victim wrestled the gun from Williams and gave it to police officers upon their arrival.

The victim was transported to Highland District Hospital by Hillsboro Fire & Rescue.

Williams was transported to the Highland County Justice Center. Williams will be arraigned Thursday morning in Hillsboro Municipal Court on a charge of felonious assault.
