Hillsboro firefighters called to Collins Avenue home fire

The Hillsboro Fire Department was called to the 100 block of West Collins Avenue at 8:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30 for a report of a house fire.

Chief Jeff Martin said the fire started in the kitchen after a stove was left unattended.

There was heavy damage in the kitchen area of the home and smoke damage throughout.

There were no injuries reported. Two small dogs were rescued, one of which was take by local veterinarian Dr. Robert Sharp for observation.

The Highland County North Joint Fire and Ambulance District, the Lynchburg Area Joint Fire Ambulance District and the Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire District also responded.
