The Highland County Sheriff's Office, in cooperation with the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification (BCI), conducted a two-day marijuana eradication effort Sept. 13-14, around Highland County.

According to Highland County Sheriff Ron Ward, approximately 100 marijuana plants had been eradicated by late afternoon Friday.

Ward said no charges had been filed as of 5 p.m. Friday.

However, he expects to send information to the grand jury. Ward also said that a search warrant on one Jackson Township property was possible.

Ward said that BCI had contracted with a helicopter service and their agents, plus deputies from the HCSO, were involved.

Residents in Concord and Jackson townships could see the search helicopter flying low from the Sugar Tree Ridge and Fairfax communities in mid-afternoon Friday.

The operation was scheduled for two days. However, Ward added: "We will be out until the first hard freeze in looking for other plants."

Ward said this year's harvest appears to be down due to the summer drought.

To report criminal activity, call the HCSO at (937) 393-1421.
