Greenfield PD called to Spring Street residence

Greenfield police served a search warrant at 419 Spring Street Wednesday afternoon.

Two adults, a male and a female, were taken from the scene in handcuffs and were in custody at the Greenfield jail.

Officers at the scene were dressed in SWAT gear as they had to make forcible entry into the house.

Two suspects were taken into custody without incident.

A canine unit also was searching the residence and a vehicle outside the residence.

According to a news release from Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester, officers executed a search warrant at an apartment at 419 Spring St. The warrant was obtained after an investigation of drug trafficking at the residence.

"Due to the criminal history of one of the occupants and possibility of firearms being present, the court granted a 'no-knock' warrant, and officers made forcible, unannounced entry to the home," Hester said. "Once inside, an adult male and adult female were detained. Searching officers located a large amount of suspected crack cocaine, pills, and suspected marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia and cash." 

Crystal Howland, 45, was arrested for misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia and held in the Greenfield jail for bond. Felony charges will be referred to the prosecutor for grand jury presentation after the evidence is analyzed.

Later in the evening at 10:20 p.m. an officer investigating a complaint in the 300 block of Edgewood Ave. detected a strong odor emitting from a home at 340 Edgewood.

From his experience and training, the officer recognized the odor as being associated with the manufacturing of methamphetamine. The officer knocked on the door and attempted to evacuate the house with no response from inside.

A search warrant was obtained and when officers made entry they located items used in manufacturing meth along with a container of suspected finished product. They also found suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. This case will also be presented to the prosecutor after evidence analysis is complete.
