Greenfield hosts retirement reception for Betty Bishop Dec. 19

The community is invited to a retirement reception for outgoing Greenfield City Manager Betty Bishop from 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19 at the Greenfield Historical Society Grain and Hay Building on Jefferson Street and McArthur Way.

If you cannot attend, you are encouraged to send a card, letter, or email to Betty. These will be presented to Betty at the reception.

In April of this year, Bishop informed Greenfield council members they needed to start exploring their options.

"We have been very blessed over the past two years," Bishop said. "This community has been very good to me, and I pray that the majority of the people feel I have been good for the community. We have a lot of projects in the hopper, and hopefully someone can step in and keep moving this community forward. I definitely believe Greenfield is in a position to progress rapidly."

Bishop said in April, "I love what I am doing. I love the community. The community has been very good to me. But I'm tired. I'm working way too many hours. I am a workaholic, and I need to cut back."

Bishop referenced a number of major projects that have been taken on during her administration, including the wind energy project, the sewerage system, the railroad improvements, the mapping of underground utilities and the increased law enforcement presence – which now has a K-9 unit on each shift.

"I've made some tough decisions and not all of them were popular," Bishop said. "But the community has been great. We have a lot of good people in Greenfield."
