Green Umbrella launches Climate Fellowship Program with local governments to advance regional resilience and sustainability
Green Umbrella is launching a Climate Action Fellowship program for governments in Greater Cincinnati communities. The fellowship pairs undergraduate and graduate students, and individuals who want to pivot careers into the climate space, with Green Umbrella members to develop practical plans and solutions for a changing climate.
Local governments receive research support and added capacity, assistance in sustainability planning. Fellows receive invaluable experience in the public sector, and networking and professional development support.
The three local governments selected for Green Umbrella’s Climate Fellowship program this year are the Cities of Covington, Ky.; Milford, Ohio; and Oxford, Ohio.
“Utilizing our partnership with Green Umbrella, the City will embark on a progressive path to safeguard our environment and enhance the quality of life of our citizens, forging a path towards a greener, more sustainable tomorrow,” says Michael Doss, City Manager for the City of Milford, Ohio. “Through our commitment to the Climate Fellows program, Milford commits to championing future climate action, nurturing innovative solutions, and cultivating a thriving, eco-conscious community."
Only two jurisdictions (the Cities of Oxford and Cincinnati, Ohio) in Green Umbrella’s 10-county region, encompassing 188 jurisdictions, have climate action plans. The Climate Action Fellowship program will work directly with local governments to provide capacity to help kickstart a community-driven, whole-of-government approach to climate planning that centers equity and community resilience.
The 2024 Climate Action Fellows are generously supported by the Greater Cincinnati Foundation.
Green Umbrella, the Tri-State’s Regional Climate Collaborative, leads cross-sector collaboration to accelerate climate action across Greater Cincinnati.
