With the 2013 high school prom season approaching, law enforcement officers and first-responders are preparing a pre-prom message of life-saving safety.
In a joint effort to bring awareness to the dangers of drug- and drunk-driving, Highland County DARE Officer Dep. Bobby Stroop, along with all county fire departments, the Highland County Sheriff's Office, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, local police departments, and the Thompson Funeral Homes, presented a "Prom Promise" mock disaster Thursday, April 18 at the Highland County Fairgrounds.
First-responders took students through the aftermath of a fatal car crash, from the initial 911 call, to emergency response and transport, and the notification of next of kin.

Officers explained the impact of such a potential lethal decision to drink and drive, and also stressed the hurt that such action can cause to other family members.
Students also heard from Lee Harris, who shared his real-life experiences of being seriously injured in a drunk-driving crash 23 years ago.
Hundreds of students from Hillsboro City Schools, Fairfield Local Schools, Lynchburg-Clay Local Schools, and Bright Local Schools attended the event.
