Firefighters from area departments participated in a training session on Tower and Ladder Operations hosted by the Highland County Firefighters Association at the Hillsboro Fire Department Monday evening.

The April 15 training, led by instructor Marc Bayless, acting captain of the Hillsboro Fire Department, taught students the basics of tower operations, safety, set-up and operations of the aerial tower.

After receiving instruction on familiarization and proper set-up of the tower, students were then able to participate in hands-on operation of the tower ladder.

Participating departments included Hillsboro, Paint Creek Joint EMS and Fire District, and Fayetteville Fire Departments.

Upcoming training sessions will include an EMS training on the topic of "Summer Emergencies” by MedFlight, and a fire training on accountability.

These classes are provided at no charge to the county fire and EMS departments through funds generated by the seasonal fish fries, the annual Kroger Klassic car show, as well as other fundraising projects sponsored by the Highland County Firefighters Association.
