Fire crews responded to a report of a structure fire just before 11 p.m. at 1032 Mirabeau St. in Greenfield Wednesday.
Upon arriving at the two-story frame house, firefighters discovered heavy smoke and flames shooting from the roof at the rear of the house.
Firefighters immediately attacked the fire in the rear as crews on the front roof of the house started working to provide ventilation. Even as temperatures hovered around 18 degrees, the firefighters had few problems in laying their supply lines from the hydrant and getting this fire under control.
After battling the fire for almost an hour, the flames were finally extinguished just before midnight.
