Ethics violations filed against former Ohio mayor
The Ohio Ethics Commission’s Executive Director Paul Nick and Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Timothy J. McGinty have announced that two complaints against Gregory Costabile, 46, of Mayfield Heights, have been filed in the Franklin County Municipal Court alleging violations of the state’s ethics laws, both first-degree misdemeanors.
The charges allege that Costabile filed false financial disclosure statements with the Ethics Commission in 2006 and 2011.
While serving as a Mayfield Heights City Council member and later as its mayor, the ethics laws required Costabile to file annual personal financial disclosure statements with the Ohio Ethics Commission.
The first complaint alleges that Costabile knowingly failed to disclose Hidden Woods, LLC as a source of $100,000 in income received in 2005.
The second complaint alleges that Costabile knowingly failed to disclose income in the amount of $15,000 received in 2010, from Seagull Development, an oil and gas company that was operating wells in the city.
The complaints resulted from a joint investigation conducted by the Ohio Ethics Commission and the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office.
The case is set for arraignment at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29 before Judge Paul Herbert in Courtroom 4C of the Franklin County Municipal Court.
