Ernie and Rita Blankenship served as grand marshals of the 2012 Hillsboro Uptown Business Association Christmas Parade 'A Hometown Hero's Christmas' Saturday, Nov. 24.

The parade lined up at the Highland County Fairgrounds and proceeded along West Main Street to North High Street in historic uptown Hillsboro.

Brian Vance and Alex Butler served as announcers for this year's parade.

Prior to the parade the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association honored veterans Mac McCray, Rick Wilkin, masonry students from Shawn Wilkin's junior and senior classes at Laurel Oaks, and all those who helped with the Highland County Veterans Memorial.

Memorial bricks in recognition of a Highland County veteran are available by contacting the Hillsboro VFW Post 9094 at 393-0211. Approximately 1,300 engraved bricks have been purchased, said George Stewart of the VFW.

Numerous area businesses, churches and organizations participated in the 2012 parade.
