Scioto County Sheriff's Office, Press Release

Scioto County Sheriff David Thoroughman announced that on July 19, deputies and detectives responded to a residence on Eckhart Road in Lucasville in an attempt to locate a male for whom a Scioto County grand jury had returned an indictment warrant earlier that day. The indictment was in reference to an ongoing investigation of the alleged rape of a child.

Sheriff Thoroughman stated that a female, identified as the suspect’s wife, answered the door and allegedly stated that the male was not home and that he had went fishing.

Detectives and deputies remained in the area surveilling the residences due to the fact that all vehicles registered to the couple were in their driveway. A van containing two persons was observed leaving the residence.

A traffic stop was made on that vehicle, and the occupants advised that the suspect was inside the residence with his wife and that the wife had allegedly lied to deputies.

Detectives were led to believe that the couple were at risk for suicide. Knowing that the couple were inside the residence, deputies and a detective announced themselves and knocked on the door for several minutes.

Due to the exigent circumstance that the couple may have harmed themselves, deputies entered the residence. Both subjects were located hiding in a back bedroom unharmed.

Arrested was Ezra Wright, 81, of Lucasville. Wright has been charged with six counts of rape of a child, a felony of the first degree. Wright is currently being held without bond.

Also arrested was Carolyn Wright, 80, who was charged with one count of obstructing justice, a felony of the third degree.
