Duncan sworn in as Highland County Commissioner

Jeff Duncan was sworn in as Highland County Commissioner at the Highland County Courthouse Monday afternoon in a ceremony conducted by Highland County Probate and Juvenile Court Judge Kevin Greer.

Duncan, a Republican, will be taking over the seat currently occupied by Jeremy Shaffer, effective Jan. 1.

Duncan joined his parents, Joe and Pat, in the operation of the family farm near Leesburg 40 years ago.

"I'm proud of you, and I'm sure your mom and dad would be proud of you as well," Greer told Duncan. "I'm sure they're looking down on you. I know they'd be proud of you, the man you've turned out to be and the commissioner you will be."

Duncan has served as a Penn Township Trustee, a director for US Bank, a member of the Republican Central Committee and a member of the Clinton-Highland Joint Fire District Board. Duncan also serves on the Board of Supervisors for the Highland County Soil and Water Conservation District and is president of the ownership group at Five Points Implement Company.

Duncan's wife, Lydia; their children, Grace Miller (Nathan), Elizabeth McNeal (Jason) and Scott Duncan (Sarah); and their granddaughter McKenzie attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Greer said that he is confident that Duncan will do well as commissioner, as he is a "conservative thinker who will listen to all sides."

"I know your moral compass is headed in the right direction," Greer said.

Duncan said that he was looking forward to being commissioner.

"I hope I can live up to the expectations I've been hearing," Duncan said.

"You will," Greer said.
