Congressman Wenstrup outlines VA reform before Congressional VA Conference Committee

As the Congressional VA Conference Committee met for the first time to iron out details in overhauling the Department of Veterans Affairs, Second District Congressman Dr. Brad Wenstrup, R-Cincinnati, outlined his prescription for fixing the VA, rooted in experiences as a physician and a soldier.

“As a doctor, I’ve had the honor of taking care of our soldiers and veterans across different hospital systems,” Wenstrup said.

“Through that experience, I’ve seen the difference between the VA and private sector.”

“What we’re lacking in the VA is efficiency. What we’re lacking are administrators with scruples. Every VA administrator should care about patient and veteran welfare first, not their personal bonuses.”

Looking forward toward how to fix the current crisis, Wenstrup said, “We must have the input of physicians who see patients to get this fixed. Just building more buildings doesn’t provide more access to care.”

The VA Conference Committee was created to negotiate differences between House and Senate legislation aimed at reforming the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Rep. Wenstrup is one of 14 House members selected to tackle the legislative load.
