Commissioners sign off on Scott House property transfer, accept cropland bid in Leesburg

The Highland County Board of Commissioners completed their portion of the Scott House transfer at the board’s Wednesday, Dec. 5 meeting.

The property is being transferred from Hillsboro City Schools to the Highland County Historical Society after pass-throughs from the county commissioners and the Highland  County Community Improvement Corporation.

Hillsboro City Law Director Fred Beery collected the commissioners’ deed signatures, which were witnessed by Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins and Hillsboro City Auditor Gary Lewis.

Commissioners had received a legal opinion last month from Collins regarding the property transfer.

“It’s all yours,” commissioner Tom Horst told Bob Lambert, who was present for the Historical Society.

“Thank you,” Lambert said.

Cropland bid accepted

In other business, commissioners accepted a bid of $46,500 for the lease of cropland at the Leesburg Industrial Park by Mark Baldwin.

Elevator repairs to begin

• Commissioner Horst informed the board that he has signed the contract for elevator repairs in the Highland County Administration Building with Otis Elevator Company.
   
Horst said repairs are expected to take three to four weeks.
   
“We’ll be hooking up a telephone in the basement and a directory of departments for handicapped people, and they can call the department they need (and a representative will go downstairs to meet with them).”

Pre-paid legal services available

• Commissioners and several county department managers also heard a presentation from Legal Shield, which is offering pre-paid legal services – starting at $15.95 – to interested county employees.
