The Highland County Board of Commissioners entered into a brief executive session for discussions on property to begin Wednesday's meeting.
For the second consecutive week, commissioners met with Brent Fite regarding a potential property sale of a West Main Street building.
Following the executive session, commissioners Gary Heaton, Tom Horst and Shane Wilkin met with a number of county department administrators regarding
items stored in the West Main Street building that is under consideration for sale to Fite.
Highland County Auditor Bill Fawley, Treasurer Vickie Warnock and Engineer Dean Otworth were among the office holders in attendance.
Commissioners asked if there were any major obstacles in transferring the various files and equipment in storage. A plan was presented in which county
files currently stored in the back of the West Main Street building (which is just across the alley from the west side of the Highland County
Administration Building) will be relocated to the small conference room in the lowest floor of the administration building.
Since a large number of files contain confidential information, the conference room will remain locked. County administrators will be given keys
for have access to their respective files.
"We need to make sure the files are secure since their are payroll records," Fawley said.
"Only the office holders with records stored will have keys," Horst said.
"We also need to let people know the small conference room will no longer be available," Wilkin said.
In other business, commissioners accepted a high bid of $10,251 for the cropland lease of 64 acres at the Leesburg Industrial Park. Baldwin Farms
submitted the highest of the three bids for the farmland lease.
Resolutions
Commissioners approved the following resolutions, all by 3-0 votes:
• The authorization of a transfer to the Help Me Grow (County) as follows: from Help-Me Grow, Reimb., to Help Me Grow (County), in the
amount of $10,000.
• The authorization of a modification to the General Fund budget as follows: from Tobacco - Economic Development to Commissioners, Other,
in the amount of $9,608.08, and from Commissioners, Tobacco Economic Development, to Rural Zoning Commission, Salary, in the amount of
$1,500. Funds from the Tobacco Foundation for Economic Development were expended in full as salaries from the General Fund. With the
closing of the Economic Development office on March 31, 2010, the appropriation to the Commissioners' line-item is no longer needed.
