Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings issued a proclamation recognizing the week of May 4-10 as "Buddy Poppy Week," Thursday afternoon in the Hillsboro City Building.

Representatives of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) were on hand to accept the proclamation, which "urges all citizens to acknowledge the significance, good will and importance the VFW holds in our fair city and encourages all citizens to wear a Buddy Poppy as mute evidence of our gratitude to the men and women of this country who have risked their lives in defense of the freedoms which we continue to enjoy as American citizens."
