City of Hillsboro charges HUBA $315 for 2014 Holiday Parade

The city of Hillsboro this week sent an invoice to the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association for $315 for police services related to the 2014 HUBA Holiday Parade.

In a Dec. 9 letter to HUBA, Hillsboro Police Chief Todd Whited said the billing was for traffic coverage during the parade.

The hourly rate for seven HPD officers was $30 and Whited submitted an invoice for 90 minutes of service for each officer at a rate of $45 per officer.

“Please make the checks out to each officer,” Whited instructed the Hillsboro Uptown Business Association.

Officers Shawn Kelley, Ron Priest, Zach Burnett, Kyle Dwelly, Jerry Williams, Greg Barr and Jon Salyer. Whited rode in the parade in a Hillsboro police cruiser and was introduced by the event’s emcees, but was not mentioned for payment.

According to Hillsboro Uptown Business Association member Rachelle Trefz, “There was no mention of billing us until after the parade was over.”

Trefz said “The city was going to charge last year, but I spoke with Lee Koogler (Hillsboro City Council president), and he talked them out of it."
