A Cincinnati man was sentenced last week to seven months in prison after pleading guilty to theft in Highland County.

Branden Williams, 30, of Cincinnati was charged with theft, a fifth-degree felony, during the February Highland County grand jury session.

The indictment accused Williams of “knowingly obtaining or exerting control over … 30 rolls of copper wire and other miscellaneous items” valued between $1,000 and $7,500 with the owner’s consent last December.

Williams pleaded guilty to the charge April 3 in Highland County Common Pleas Court.

During Williams’ hearing, Highland County Prosecutor Anneka Collins explained that Williams’ “prior criminal history, which does show multiple felony convictions as well as felony offenses of violence,” is the reason for the lower-level felony being eligible for a potential prison term.

Highland County Common Pleas Court Judge Rocky Coss imposed the agreed-upon sentence of seven months in prison, as outlined in Williams’ plea agreement. In addition, Williams was ordered to pay $3,440.70 in restitution to the victim in this case.
