Barb Cole to challenge incumbent in 91st House District

Highland County TEA Party President Barb Cole has announced her candidacy for the Ohio House of Representatives.

Prior to the close of the TEA Party's Jan. 20 meeting, Cole, R-Hillsboro, the outgoing party president, announced her candidacy for state representative in the 91st House District.

Cole will face incumbent Rep. Cliff Rosenberger, R-Clarksville, in the Republican primary election on Tuesday, May 6.

Cole made her announcement with Rosenberger in attendance at Monday evening's TEA Party meeting.

Cole said she is running on a similar platform as Rosenberger when he initially campaigned for the office in 2010: Jobs.

“Clinton, Highland and Pike counties have been promised help and attention around the economy and employment – in short, jobs,” Cole said.

“It was supposed to be the focus. Look at the job numbers over the last four years. The current representative says we’ve made progress. The facts say we haven’t.”

Cole said she believes constituents prefer “a citizen representative not a professional politician.”

“They want someone with the courage to stand up for the little guy, not the political big guy,” she said. “They want someone who will take hold of the issues and change them on a state level – like jobs and health-care policy. They want someone who will stay in touch and listen on issues – like fees and taxes.”

“As the campaign unfolds, I look forward to introducing my background, experience and ideas to the voters,” Cole said.

The 91st House District includes Highland, Clinton and Pike counties and a portion of Ross County.
