Athens County Task Force arrests 2 suspects in drug trafficking investigation
The Athens County Task Force recently concluded an extended investigation into an alleged drug trafficking organization in the area, following the execution of a search warrant and the arrest of two suspects.
The Athens County Special Response Team was utilized to serve a warrant on Fox Lake Road, Athens, where multiple people were detained. The home was secured and turned over to Detectives with the Task Force.
Sheriff Smith advised, “Detectives conducted interviews of multiple suspects and completed a thorough search of the home and vehicles. During the search, over three ounces of methamphetamine, crack cocaine and fentanyl were located. In addition to the narcotics, multiple guns, cash and items related to illegal drug trafficking were seized as evidence.”
All applicable items will be sent to BCI for analysis.
Detectives with the Whitehall Police Department Narcotics Unit simultaneously executed a search warrant at the residence of the primary suspect in Whitehall, Ohio. Units located drug pressing and manufacturing devices, cash, firearms and additional items related to drug trafficking.
The following suspects were arrested and transported to the Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail:
• Shawn D. Agee Jr, 37, of Columbus was charged with possession of cocaine (first-degree felony); possession of fentanyl compound (first-degree felony); aggravated possession of methamphetamine (second-degree felony); trafficking in cocaine (first-degree felony); trafficking in fentanyl compound (first-degree felony); and trafficking in methamphetamine (second-degree felony).
Nathaniel Weatherspoon, 47, of Columbus was charged with possession of cocaine (first-degree felony); possession of fentanyl compound (first-degree felony); aggravated possession of methamphetamine (second-degree felony); trafficking in cocaine (first-degree felony); trafficking in fentanyl compound (first-degree felony); trafficking in methamphetamine (second-degree felony).
The case will be forwarded to the Athens County Prosecutor’s Office and additional charges are expected.
