Hillsboro City Council member Tracy Aranyos was sworn in as a member of council Monday afternoon at the Hillsboro city building in a ceremony conducted by Hillsboro Mayor Drew Hastings.

Aranyos, who was appointed by the Highland County Democratic Executive and Central Committee in August to replace council member Mary Brown Turner, was elected in November as a write-in candidate.

Aranyos said she is hoping for "positive, positive, positive" news in the coming year.

"I'm really excited about the new group [of council members]," Aranyos told The Highland County Press. "A lot of us are really new, but we're excited, and we're really excited to work together and learn together.

"I want to keep things positive. I'm tired of all the bad news and ready for some good news."
